Rubén Gimeno (Valencia, 1972) has held the post of artistic director of the Youth Orchestra of the Community of Madrid (JORCAM) since 2019, a title he combines with that of conductor of the Euskadi Youth Orchestra. Trained in violin, his beginnings in the world of conducting came from the hand of Professor James Ross, with whom he obtained a Master's Degree in Orchestra Conducting at the University of Maryland (United States). He later studied at the Stockholm Conservatory with the renowned maestro Jorma Panula, receiving training from figures such as Alan Gilbert and Essa Pekka Salonen, until he obtained the Superior Diploma in Orchestra Conducting.
In his career he has held the position of chief conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónicadel Vallés (2009-2016), in addition to having served as artistic director of the Orquesta Joven de la Sinfónica de Galicia for six years, work that he combined with the position of violinist of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia. As guest conductor he has collaborated with a large number of Spanish orchestras such as the Orquesta Nacional de España, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León, the Orquesta de Valencia and the Orquesta de Barcelona, among others.
Outside our borders he has conducted the Norrkoping Symphony Orchestra, the Gavle Symphony Orchestra, the Geneva Chamber Orchestra, the MMCK Orchestra (Japan), the SAMI Orchestra (Sweden) and the National Orchestra of Colombia, in collaborations with soloists of the stature of Lang Lang, Violeta Urmana, Steven Isserlis and Dmitri Sitkovetsky, Fazil Say, Gabriela Montero, Behzod Abduraimov, Maria Bayo and Michel Camilo.
His activity in the field of opera has led him to direct the productions of the Teatro
Campoamor de Oviedo Marina, La Gran Vía and Agua, azucarillos y aguardiente. He has conducted Cádiz, by Federico Chueca, with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia and La del Soto del Parral at the Teatro de la Zarzuela. He has also developed an intense collaboration within the Ópera en Cataluña cycle, conducting the Tales of Hoffmann, L'elisir d'amore, Nabucco, La bohème, Madama Butterfly and Goyescas, among other classical pieces. Since February 2022 he is also conductor of the Academia Orquestal de la Comunida de Madrid-Ruesma.
